Here’s The Best Way To Travel If Your Four-Legged Friend Is Joining You
If you’ve been itching to travel around the country but can’t seem to bear the thought of leaving your favorite fur-baby at home, then we might have the perfect solution for you. Avoid dealing with your pet in busy airports, worrying if they’ll end up at the wrong destination or even worse, end up hating the plane ride, and take advantage of Amtrak’s pet policy.

A new policy made by Amtrak a couple of years ago allows passengers on Amtrak trains to purchase a reservation for their pet for an extra $25 dollars or 800 Amtrak Guest Reward Points. The only catch? Your cat or dog must be 20 pounds or under to take advantage of this travel deal. Choosing to ride the rails with your pet is a much less expensive ordeal than having them fly with you in the cabin of an airplane.
If you do decide to bring your pet along with you on Amtrak, you can book a reservation online. Pet owners will be required to sign a Pet Release and Indemnification Agreement, basically claiming responsibility for their pet while traveling with Amtrak. Owners will also be required to provide their own pet carrier, one that can either be soft or hard, and must be well-ventilated and leak-proof.
