7 Things You Should Do The Day Before You Leave For Vacation
The day before your vacation can quickly turn into a frenzy of packing, planning and last-minute trips to the store for travel-size toiletries. In the midst of all that madness, make sure you take the time to tick these essential things off your pre-trip to-do list.
1. Put a travel note on your credit cards.
2. Clean out your fridge.
This might not be an issue if you’re returning within a day or two, but any trip longer than a weekend away should warrant eating, giving away or throwing out the perishable food in your refrigerator.
3. Bring in any outdoor furniture.
Thieves who notice you’ve been gone for a few days might start to eye that lightweight patio set or gardening tools. Plus, any windy weather while you’re away could knock things about.
4. Pay your utility bills in advance.
And your rent, mortgage, phone bill, etc. It’s easy to forget those due dates when you’re relaxing on a beach, but you don’t want to come home to a big stack of late fees.
5. Remove the non-essential stuff from your wallet.
No need to go on holiday with a wallet full of gift cards, loyalty cards and extra credit cards. This minimizes the damage if your purse or wallet is stolen…or goes overboard.
6. Double-check reservations.
7. Figure out how you’ll use your cellphone.
Data and phone minutes can be exorbitantly expensive outside your carrier zone, so be sure to contact your phone company to find out what your options are for calling, sending texts and using the internet. You can often buy day passes or an allotment of extra international data. While it’s no fun having to buy extras, the hundreds of dollars in fees you can rack up using your phone abroad for just a few days are much nastier.
