One Of The Most Unique Theme Parks In America Will Soon Be Open In Pennsylvania
Residents of Pennsylvania may already know about the amazing theme park, Sesame Place, which is located less than an hour outside of Philadelphia in the township of Langhorne. The only theme park completely dedicated to the hit TV show Sesame Street, Sesame Place has been open since 1980 and continues to bring the show to life for visitors. But this year things are a bit different! Keep reading to find out why.

At the beginning of April (AKA National Autism Awareness Month), Sesame Place shared the news that they were now the world’s first theme park to become a Certified Autism Center. The theme park is made up of 25 attractions, also featuring several live shows and daily parades. Sesame Place will now have low-sensory areas where visitors can enjoy the parade without having to worry about direct interaction like receiving hugs and high fives from Sesame Street characters.
Something else to keep in mind? Sesame Place will now offer noise-canceling headphones to visitors of the park on a first come, first served basis where the headphones can be returned at the end of the day.

Sesame Place worked with organizations to make sure that this would be an autism-friendly park for visitors. Aside from the park creating a sensory guide that ranges on a scale from 1 to 10 to determine the amount of stimulus for things like sound, smell, sight, taste, and touch, Sesame Place now also has two quiet rooms that have adjustable lighting.
But that’s not all! Last year Sesame Street welcomed a new character to the neighborhood, Julia, a four-year-old with autism. Visitors of Sesame Place will have the opportunity to meet Julia while the park is open. Those who work at the park now also receive training in subjects like autism overview, social skills, sensory awareness, motor skills, communication, program development, environment and emotional awareness.
