This U.S. Airport Will Soon Be Powered By The Sun

In an effort to minimize its environmental footprint, one major U.S. airport is going completely green.

Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport will be installing 4,260 solar panels in order to harness the power of the sun. The airport’s goal is to be running completely on clean energy by 2045.

Another upshot of the solar panels is that they will provide covered parking at the airport. While travelers may not see the immediate benefits of the switch to clean energy, they’re sure to appreciate a shady place to park their car.

The solar panels will be installed starting in August with work continuing into mid-November. This installation is the first of what the Hawaii Department of Transportation hopes will be a switch to green energy across all of the state’s airports.
