One Of America’s Most Popular Museums Is Closing This Summer

If you want to visit The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, you better get in line soon. The landmark attraction is closing this summer for renovations.

The MoMA is scheduled to close its doors from June 15 to October 21, 2019. This closure is part of a $400 million renovation plan that will involve updating the galleries and rehanging the entire collection, which is no small feat.

We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now:

The renovation will also give curators a chance to include more art created by women, Latinos, Asians, African Americans, and other underrepresented artists.

When the museum does reopen in October, it will extend its hours to open at 10 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. the first Thursday of every month. It will also rotate its galleries every six to nine months, so visiting the world-famous museum will always be a fresh experience.
