According to this year’s report released by the Journal of the American Medical Association, residents along America’s coasts have the highest life expectancy. When it came to determining the healthiest states in our country, JAMA looked at factors such as life mortality, life expectancy, and disease between 1990 and 2016.

At the top of JAMA’s list, Hawaii was ranked America’s state with the longest life expectancy at 81.3 years, with only 19% of its residents suffering from obesity – the lowest in the country. Other factors that lead the Aloha State to the top of the list? The fact that Hawaii has some of the lowest depression rates in the country, and only roughly 17% of their residents are smokers.
