There’s A Small Town In The Midwest That’s Being Overrun By Drunken Birds
One small town in Northern Minnesota has been dealing with a high number of drunk and disorderly feathered residents.
The people in Gilbert, Minnesota have been phoning their local police department to report apparently intoxicated birds. The birds have been acting confused and flying into car windows and walls.

The police department contacted the National Parks Service, who were quick to explain that the animals were feasting on berries that had fermented earlier than usual this year because of an early frost. The sugar in these fruits can turn to alcohol under the right conditions, which can lead to buzzed birdies.
The police issued a statement alerting the (human) residents of Gilbert to the situation and assuring everyone that the birds would soon sober up:

Their sense of humor with the whole ordeal certainly lightened the mood, but it is important to note that seeing (nonfictional) birds acting unusually due to consuming fermented berries is not uncommon in Minnesota or elsewhere in the country. No matter where you live, buzzed birds are not a matter for the police department to respond to.
Here’s to hoping our feathered friends don’t experience hangovers like humans do!
