The Seemingly Charming California Town That’s Hiding A Grim Secret
One well-known and beautiful California town is hiding a scary secret.
A new report has revealed that Santa Monica has a major crime problem. In fact, its crime rate far out-stripped rates in more than a dozen similarly sized cities in California.
Santa Monica saw 4,039 reported incidents of property crime in 2016. This is almost 1,000 more incidents than posh Santa Barbara and over 1,500 more than Compton. Most of the property crime in Santa Barbara was related to larceny and theft.
Culver City was the only California city to earn a higher property crime rate than Santa Monica.
Additionally, Santa Barbara’s violent crime rate experienced a slight uptick in 2016. It saw 6.74 percent increase, bringing it higher than the national rate.
The cities officials have stated that though crime rates are on the rise, Santa Monica is still a good place to live and work.
