Tumbleweeds Are Taking Over This California Town And It’s Worse Than You’d Think
The state of California is no stranger to unusual natural disasters, but over the last week a city within San Bernardino County has become in need of assistance due to an usual happening. Find out how tumbleweeds have come to take over this one small town.
An invasive species that arrived in the United States back in the late 1900s, tumbleweeds are common out in western states like California. Unfortunately, over the last week tumbleweeds have gathered into large piles right in front of local residents' homes in the city of Victorville.
Depicted in recent footage and photos taken by local residents of Victorville, viewers can see that large mounds of tumbleweeds have piled in front of people’s homes. Affecting roughly 150 homes in the area, some residents have experienced 10-foot-tall mounds of tumbleweeds right in front of their doors. The large mounds have resulted in many residents calling 911 due to the fact that they’ve become trapped inside of their own homes.
Not only affecting homes, the mass amount of tumbleweeds have been making their way across major roadways - causing disastrous issues for those who are driving. While Victorville’s Code Enforcement has sent trucks out to the city to take away the tumbleweeds, their work has often been left undone quickly thereafter. Recently the area has been seeing winds of up to 60 mph, blowing all the tumbleweeds right back to where they came from.
