Here’s A Sneak Peak At This Dazzling New Pittsburgh Airport Terminal

Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is about to undergo a radical renovation that will leave the airport with a stunning new terminal.

The airport is working in collaboration with engineering firms Gensler, HDR, and Luis Vidal + Architects to add a terminal between Airside Terminal and concourses C and D. The new design was given the green light by the Allegheny County Airport Authority Board of Directors on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.

We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now:

The new terminal will feature plenty of lush “green” plazas, a larger TSA checkpoint to decrease security waiting times, and more seating areas for passengers in transit. The design will also shorten walking times for both arriving and departing passengers, reducing the time it takes to get from your car to your gate by up to 50 percent.

Though the new design has been officially debuted, officials have stated that passengers shouldn’t expect to walk through the finished terminal before 2023. Still, a space as gorgeous as this one is worth waiting for.
