What’s the next-best thing to swimming in the ocean? A saltwater pool, of course. There’s one right here in the Lone Star State, and it’s been a local favorite for almost 60 years. The best part? It’s Texas-shaped!

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 168,000-gallon Texas Pool opened to the public way back in 1961. It was the first-ever swimming pool shaped like the Lone Star State!

For almost 60 years, locals have been gathering here to enjoy some fun in the sun and make lasting memories. It's a saltwater pool, so although the Gulf is over 300 miles away, you can still experience that indescribable feeling of immersing yourself in the ocean.

A diving board, two waterslides, and plenty of lounge chairs ensure boredom is next-to impossible. There's also an "island" featuring a shallow kiddie pool, so all ages can take part in the fun.

If you plan on visiting the pool regularly, both individual and family memberships are available. Otherwise, entry is $5 for guests of members and $10 for tourists. Children two and under swim at no charge.
