This Rare Footage In The 1900s Shows Texas Like You’ve Never Seen It Before

We’ve seen pictures and heard stories about the most destructive storm in the history of the United States, but videos are harder to come by considering how long ago it was. We’ve managed to come across rare footage of Galveston citizens sifting through the debris that the hurricane left behind, looking for lost items, and, sadly, loved ones who perished. Being from Texas, we all know how hard it is to return to normal life after a hurricane – so just imagine what it was like for these poor souls who had hardly any warning or means to deal with such a catastrophe. Maybe watching this video will put it in perspective as we head into another hurricane season.

We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! What do you think of the video? It’s almost surreal to see the aftermath of such a tragedy in action.
