Dallas is about to get a whole lot greener. A plan is in the works to expand the space around Trinity River into a massive, breathtaking park with trails, playgrounds, and beautiful lawns. As the third largest city in Texas, Dallas has its fill of sprawl, and this new park space will generate fresh air amidst a bustling city. Trinity River Park, once completed, will be the largest urban park in the entire country. And it promises to be of major benefit.
The Trinity River Corridor is already considered a beloved space in Texas. A landmark of the city, it has served the community by promoting activities for kids, levee runs, fundraising parties, kite flying festivals, and other memorable events.

Unfortunately, the land around the area is especially prone to flooding and has been a source of damage in the past. And that’s exactly where the motivation behind the new plan lies. Dallas residents will be delighted to learn that this project will convert a major floodplain into something delightful.
The team behind Trinity River Park, Michael Van Valkenburg Associates, has worked diligently with the land’s infrastructure to ensure the conversion will be a safe and efficient one. Photographed above is an artist’s rendition of what the space will look like once completed.
This park is to be part of the city’s new Nature District. This greenscape will include an impressive 10,000 acres, most of which will be the Great Trinity Forest. Once this new space is completed, it will feature luscious lawns, playgrounds, and an exquisite trail system.

Thanks to significant donations, the lofty plans for Trinity River Park have moved from ideas into concrete progress. The Trinity River Association has also hosted events to raise money for other features of the park, including the Trinity Strand Trail. This trail system will connect over 70 miles of trails in the area. This beautiful park will undoubtedly transform Dallas, and as Mayor Mike Rawlings has stated, will completely redefine the city for the future.
