You’d Never Know One Of The Most Incredible Natural Wonders In Texas Is Hiding In This State Park
If you love discovering natural wonders in Texas, you’ll want to make a beeline for Goose Island State Park. This coastal oasis is home to one of the oldest live oak trees in the U.S. Known as the “Big Tree,” the majestic landmark has commanded the landscape it sits on for centuries.
Nestled along the scenic Texas coastline, Goose Island State Park is a hidden gem just north of Corpus Christi.
Anglers, rejoice! The park features a 1,600-foot-long fishing pier that's perfect for reeling in your catches of the day. You can also fish from a boat or the shore, and a fish cleaning station is available. Remember: you don't need a fishing license at a Texas state park.
You'll see several types of birds (including pelicans), as well as alligators on occasion. Don't forget your camera to take pictures of all the beautiful wildlife!
History buffs will also love a trip to Goose Island State Park. Several buildings, including this refectory, date to the 1930s and were built by the CCC.
If you'd like to extend your visit overnight to admire the tree (and all the other beautiful scenery) a bit longer, the park offers over 100 campsites with varying amenities. Over half of the sites are nestled under a sprawling grove of live oaks - they're smaller than the Big Tree, but no less magical.
