The Historic Restaurant In Texas Where You Can Still Experience The Old American South
When it comes to Southern restaurants in Texas, there are a great many to choose from – but few offer an experience as timeless as that of Ol’ South Pancake House in Fort Worth. Open since 1962, this local institution serves up some of the best homestyle fare you’ll ever eat, from hearty breakfast plates to chicken-fried steak and everything in between. Oh, and did we mention it’s open 24/7?
Founded way back in 1962, Ol' South Pancake House has been one of the most iconic breakfast spots in Fort Worth - and for good reason.
Although the restaurant looks quite different these days, its core values haven't changed at all. First and foremost, it's still open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you and your family can enjoy homestyle Southern cooking morning, noon, or night.
The décor is simple, rustic, and homey, and the waitstaff dishes out generous portions of Southern hospitality. Eating here is akin to dining in the home of a close friend during the heyday of the Old American South.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and Ol' South Pancake House certainly agrees with that sentiment. Front and center on the menu are - of course - pancakes, stacked 3-6 high and available in homestyle, buttermilk, buckwheat, or corn.
The real star of the show is the world-famous German pancake. Filled with fresh-squeezed lemon juice, powdered sugar, and butter, these behemoths are easily the most popular dish the restaurant has to offer.
If you're in the mood for something that will really stick to your ribs, might we suggest the pork chop and eggs? This hearty meal is sure to keep you filled up for hours. Not a pork chop fan? Opt for steak, hamburger steak, corned beef, chicken-fried steak, or chicken-fried chicken instead.
Despite breakfast being the main event, Ol' South Pancake House offers plenty of scrumptious lunch and dinner options, as well. The fried catfish is truly some of the best you'll ever try.
Of course, no Southern eatery would be complete without chicken-fried steak on the menu. Other selections include burgers, meatloaf, steak, sandwiches, salads, and so much more.
Ol’ South Pancake House has a second location in Burleson; however, it is not open 24/7. Visit the restaurant’s official website or Facebook page for more information, including Burleson hours and a full menu.
