The Enormous Slices Of Cake From This Texas Bakery Will Give You The Ultimate Sugar Rush
Those of us with a major sweet tooth know that when it strikes, not just any dessert will do – it has to be truly epic. We would definitely classify the Chocolate Bar’s cake slices as such, considering many of them are four tiers high and filled with thick layers of luscious frosting. See for yourself:
With locations in both Montrose and the Medical Center area, The Chocolate Bar is a boutique dessert shop that has been delighting Houstonians for decades. Unassuming as its exterior might look, the goodies waiting inside can only be described as dessert perfection.
Address: 1835 West Alabama Street, Houston, TX 77098 and Address: 2521 University Boulevard, Houston, TX 77005. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday + Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
Upon walking in, your eyes will immediately be drawn to two things: the lively atmosphere and positively gigantic case harboring hundreds of goodies. Whimsical decor adds a charming quirk, setting the stage for families to make long-lasting memories.
Your sweet tooth will go crazy simply looking at all the homemade candies, fudge, ice cream, cookies, brownies, and - of course - cake.
In total, there are 22 different cakes to choose from. Cheesecake, tres leches, and standard options give the menu some variety and ensure nobody leaves with unsatisfied taste buds.
This is the "Uncle Daryl", which is a four-layer chocolate cake with chocolate chips, toffee, chocolate icing, and chocolate ganache.
There's a reason this behemoth is called "Any Day's A Holiday" - there truly isn't a bad time to enjoy it! Nothing about its ingredients (four alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla cake with chocolate frosting) is particularly innovative, but sometimes simplicity is the most effective baking strategy.
Each slice of this bad boy is $10.95, but it easily feeds two or three people.
"Aunt Etta's" is reserved for the only the most extreme chocolate fans. With four layers of chocolate cake and a chocolate buttercream icing, it's a blackout of epic proportions.
Think you can finish a whole slice?
Some cakes only have two or three layers, but they're still just as delicious. Among these smaller, yet still decadently flavor-packed, creations are red velvet, carrot, and strawberry.
One perk of having fewer layers is that they can be extra thick. A classic has never looked so scrumptious!
Pro tip: bring a bunch of friends and family for an epic cake tasting. Everyone can order something different and pass it to the next person after a bite or two!
Doing this ensures a well-rounded sampling experience for all.
