Texas Small Towns

What are some of the best small towns in Texas?
Texas is s big state, so there are plenty of small towns between its vast borders. Here are some of the best small towns in Texas that you may not have heard about yet:

  • Mineral Wells, TX: Sometimes a town is born when it builds a train station, other times, it hits oil or gold, but sometimes it's only water. You wouldn't think a little ole water could create a town but that's what happened in Mineral Wells, Texas. This town became famous in the early 19th Century when mineral springs were discovered here. "Crazy Water" became the soul of Mineral Wells. This healing water was bathed in and bottled which created a boom town. The iconic Baker Hotel sprang up in 1929 too to accommodate all of the tourists. Today major renovations are being done to restore this historic hotel to its former glory.
  • Boerne, TX: While a little bigger than your typical small town at around 19,000 residents, Boerne still has that small-town charm. Its walkable downtown is particularly nice with over 80 unique shops to visit. Hill Country Mile is known from far and wide as a shopping mecca. You can spend all day finding treasures, sweet treats, and a local brew or two. Many of the shops are housed in historic Wild West-looking cabins with beautiful wood finishes. You'll also find plenty of natural areas just steps away from all of the shops, so you can enjoy a little walking, biking, fishing, or a nice picnic.
  • Shamrock, TX: This middle-of-nowhere spot lies on the famous Route 66 so the creation of Ramone's House of Body Art in the famous U-Dropp Inn (a former gas station) should be no surprise. If you enjoy automotive collectibles, a stop at Ramone's is in order. The movie Cars was inspired by this charming town in Texas and the surrounding area. From the Cadillac Ranch about an hour away in Amarillo to The Big Texan restaurant which inspired the character Tex Dinoco, you'll find lots of references to the movie around town.

One of the best ways to explore Texas is by hopping in a big 'ole RV and going on a road trip. This small-town Texas road trip will take you to even more of our favorite Texas towns.
