At just 1.5 miles long, Santa Elena Canyon Trail leads straight through one of the most iconic natural landmarks in Big Bend National Park. Massive rock walls on each side of the path stretch up toward the clouds, making for an absolutely incredible scene. Spring is by far the best time to enjoy this hike, as temperatures are mild and wildflowers are in bloom everywhere you look.
For an easy spring hike, it doesn't get much better than Cedar Brake Trail. This 2.2-mile leisurely stroll makes you forget you're in the city with its hills, dense foliage, and a beautiful pond. You'll also see tons of bluebonnets this time of year!
A lesser-known Big Bend hike, Balanced Rock Trail features some of the most amazing hoodoos you've ever seen, along with panoramic vistas of the sprawling West Texas desert. Shade is minimal so it's best to visit before it really starts warming up outside - plus, beautiful springtime blooms abound on the flat portion of the trail.
This is one of the longer hikes on the list, at 6.6 miles long, but it's still accessible to most skill levels. You'll embark on an unforgettable journey to the only tin mines that ever existed in America, all while passing wildflowers in every color of the rainbow. Make sure to bring a flashlight for the mines!
Like something from a fairytale, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a lush oasis in the middle of the hustling, bustling DFW Metroplex. This hike in particular is a 2.5-mile loop that connects with several other trails in the park, so you can choose your own adventure. Plant life abounds, and since spring is the most fertile time of year, we highly suggest planning a trip then.
One of the most popular wildflowers hikes in Texas, St. Edwards Green and Red Loop is begging for you to visit this spring. It's just 2.7 miles long, so you can frolic through fields of breathtaking blooms in the span of your lunch break.
Shady and well-maintained, Brushy Creek Trail is a 6.3-mile hike that features gorgeous scenery with every step you take. Between the whimsical footbridges, abundant wildlife, and rich history, boredom is rendered impossible. There's also a majestic waterfall that flows year-round; however, it's at its strongest in the spring. Be on the lookout for wildflowers, as their vibrant, eye-popping colors are almost too beautiful to be real.
