This Easy Fall Hike In Texas Is Under 2 Miles And You’ll Love Every Step You Take
Sure, Lost Maples is beautiful this time of year, but we can all agree that it’s hyped up a little too much. Autumn transforms so many Texas natural areas into striking oceans of gold, scarlet, and orange, and it’s about time we start recognizing more of them.
You’ve probably never heard of the Campos Trail in Garner State Park; most people haven’t. But that’s about to change, because it features some of the most breathtaking fall foliage our state has to offer. Take a look:
You won't find this secret path on any official list, but the contour map shows it directly underneath Highway Trail. Not many people are aware of its existence, so don't expect much of a crowd!
Clocking in at just .68 miles, it won't take a huge chunk out of your day like some hikes do. Use all that extra time to explore more of the park or find some other fun fall activities in the Hill Country!
Unlike Old Baldy Trail, this path is much less challenging and dangerous. It's a slow, gradual incline rather than a steep trek, so you can take in the breathtaking views rather than having to pay close attention to each step just so you don't lose your footing.
Eventually, you'll reach the Campos Trail Overlook that provides unparalleled, panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. An ocean of striking gold, red, and orange hues extend as far as the eye can see, making for a spectacular viewing experience.
Not all trees whose foliage changes for autumn display every color, so we're lucky these junipers do just that. Stereotypical fall scenes are undoubtedly the most aesthetically pleasing and make amazing subjects to photograph.
With more than 10 miles of additional trails, Garner State Park is quite the adventure in itself. Check out the website for information on lodging if you're interested in making a full trip out of it.
