This Long-Standing Texas Diner Has Some Of The Best Pie You’ve Ever Eaten
We’re all about mom & pop diners here in Texas, and they typically have one thing in common: mouthwatering pie, made fresh daily and oozing with the love and passion (and plenty of sugar) that went into it. Monument Cafe in Georgetown is no exception, and today, we’re showing you exactly what makes their pie a slice above the rest.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. Since 1995, Monument Cafe has been delighting Georgetown natives and visitors alike with old-fashioned diner food. Its architecture pays homage to small-town restaurants of yesteryear, a flashy neon sign throwing it back to the 1950s.
Inside, retro light fixtures and vintage counter stools keep the vibe going. While admittedly a tad dated, the cafe’s undeniable charm will have you quickly reminiscing on childhood memories.
Now, let’s get to talking about those pies. Unlike a lot of diners, Monument Cafe only has a few select varieties on hand at any given time. This helps ensure their commitment to freshness and real, minimal ingredients is never compromised.
On the menu, only chocolate and coconut cream are advertised. Those are the two staple flavors, but you’ll encounter specialties like this black-bottom banana on a rotating basis.
With warmer weather on the horizon, look out for classics like Key Lime. Monument knows exactly how it’s done, striking a perfect balance between sweet and tangy. And that meringue top? Light and airy yet ridiculously decadent, just as it should be.
All forms of pie are given a chance to shine here. Each day, a different flavor is fried to perfection and served with a heaping scoop of rich vanilla ice cream.
If you happen to not be a huge fan of pie, several other offerings ensure everyone leaves with a happy belly and heart. Carrot cake and hand-spun milkshakes are just two of the additional desserts to choose from.
Although sweets are their trademark without a doubt, Monument Cafe also serves killer meals. Down-home cuisine like chicken-fried steak, mac ‘n cheese, and omelettes will remind you of Sundays at grandma’s house.
Enjoy your meal inside or out in the enchanting Biergarten. Live music on weekends makes the place an upbeat environment perfect for unwinding with friends and family.
The restaurant also owns an adjacent farmers market boasting fresh, local, homegrown culinary staples. Shop around after you eat and see what treasures are waiting to be unearthed.
