The Epic Outdoor Food Fest In Dallas – Fort Worth You Simply Cannot Miss
If you didn’t know that the State Fair of Texas is the absolute most epic outdoor food fest in Dallas – Fort Worth, then you are obviously not from around here. Sure, it is the longest running fair in America at 24 days. And we do have the iconic “Big Tex” greet visitors as they enter the fairgrounds. We also have amazing rides. But what visitors really come for is the food!
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

The winning concoctions are then sold at the fair to hungry fairgoers. The 2017 winners and finalists (all will be sold at the fair) are:

Double Winner: Best Taste/Savory and Creative! The bun is deep-fried funnel cakes, the burger includes a hamburger patty, bacon, and queso, and it is finished off with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Best Taste/Sweet winner. The drinkable aquarium begins with Nerds® candy gravel. Next, the drink is iced and filled with a specially-formulated blue alcoholic punch. Swedish Fish® swim through the ice, and a pineapple slice serves as the lid.

Chicken noodle soup is deep fried and served on a stick. Each dish is served with a side of crackers.

Sweetened Froot Loops® are folded into whipped marshmallow, dipped in a creamy batter, fried to a golden brown, and then topped with a drizzle of glaze and powdered sugar.

Three Belgium mini cream puffs on a skewer are dipped in a Café Du Monde® beignet batter. They are then fried, dusted withpowdered sugar, and drizzled with a chocolate and caramel sauce.

A Texas-sized slice of fudgy chocolate brownie cake is coated in ground cocoa puffs, panko, and cinnamon sugar. The brownie is fried, and then glazed with a rich, dark icing made with Dr. Pepper®. The cake is served with chopped Texas pecans, a dollop of whipped cream, and garnished with a fresh strawberry carved to mimic a Lady Bird Johnson rose.

This creative concoction is a blend of Santa Monica Kettle Corn dusted with a Pinot Noir burgundy wine powder. It is paired with cheddar cheese flavors to give a balance of sweet and savory.

Lobster meat is marinated in lemon herb butter and partnered with seasoned steak. Both are topped with cheddar and romano cheeses after being stuffed into a baked potato with roasted garlic butter melted inside. It is topped off with a single empress cut lobster claw and a side of lemon butter for dipping.

The "Classic Pork" Tamale Donut starts with slow-cooked pork carnitas, blended with authentic "made-from-scratch" masa. Each dish is hand-formed into the donut shape and fried until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The donut is finished off with a drizzle of homemade creamy jalapeno salsa.

Breaded deep-fried beef fajita strips are seasoned with a sriracha spice mix and served in a bread cone. The dish is presented on a bed of Texas toothpicks (fried onions and jalapeños) with a side of pico de gallo and a spicy, sour cream guacamole hot sauce.
