12 Things You Must Know About Dating Someone From Dallas – Fort Worth
Looking to date someone in Dallas – Fort Worth? Great choice! Metropolitan folks are known for their friendliness, fun factor, and Southern charm… but before you set the details on that first date, here are some key things to learn so that you aren’t a one-hit wonder!
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now:
1. There can be a world of difference between a Dallasite and Fort Worthian.
There is a different mindset of locals in most cases. In general, Dallas residents are more urban with big-city attitudes and cosmopolitan tastes, while Fort Worthians are more laidback and "homey." While these aren't true for everyone, remember that Arlington residents have personalities of their own as well!
2. We have an enormously large ego and pride about Texas.
If you aren't from Texas originally and don't want your first date to be your last with a Texas native, respect our pride factor. Don't ever poke fun about Texas just being another state. It just isn't.
3. Family is everything.
We may fight at times, but around here, family is important to us. We are close to our kin, sometimes more so than you might expect. If you want to date someone from Dallas - Fort Worth, you'll just let that slide.
4. Our pets are also family, which means they are everything to us.
We LOVE our animals, and if you are smart, you will
never suggest that our beloved fur-babies are anything but amazing. Pretend you don't notice the fur ball from kitty or suggest it isn't okay if Bowzer hangs out on the couch.
5. We have a large giving heart.
We are generous, giving, and aren't afraid to pitch in and work. Tell us how we can help and expect us there. Texans help Texans... and anyone else who needs some extra help.
6. We LOVE our Cowboys (and all things football).
Don't ever say anything negative about "America's Team" if you want your date to end well. And you should know now that Sundays are for football. If you aren't a fan, pretend, and suggest a meet up at a sports bar where you can at least enjoy a drink and food. Give it a shot and we promise you'll be cheering just as loud as the rest of us.
7. We love our beer... and enjoy fine wine... and margaritas are a must.
We love our craft beer, like local-fav Revolver Beer Line, which is produced in Granbury. We also enjoy our wine; we have Grapefest here in Grapevine every September, after all! Our margaritas? They are practically a required food group around here.
8. College football teams can divide us. Don’t push it.
Tread carefully on topics like "best colleges" in Texas. It might be a trick.
9. Not all of us like country-western music... but when we do, it’s food for our soul.
The Metroplex has a lively and diverse music scene. Find out the flavor of tunes your date likes, but never ever assume.
10. Tex-Mex is always a good first date choice.
Whether it's cooked at home or served at a local hot spot, Tex-Mex is a great choice. There's always something on the menu that will please any Texas palate.
11. Most of us are hopeless romantics.
You may need to peel back the layers to find out what's underneath, but if there is a love connection, we typically crave good ol' fashioned romance! Opening doors for your date still works around here, in case you are wondering.
12. There’s absolutely no place like home.
Even if we have resided elsewhere, if we live in Dallas - Fort Worth now... we call Texas home! There's no place we'd rather be.
