The 1950s were more than a time of sock hops and poodle skirts, as trivialized by sentimental Hollywood of a bygone era. The Dallas – Fort Worth area was booming, and both cities were growing rapidly. Technology and industry, along with planes, trains and automobiles, were making their mark on the area known as the Metroplex. Here are 9 photos from 1950s you’ll find mesmerizing:

Southwest Homefurnishings Mart had an impressive, forward-thinking entrance. This photos was taken in 1957.

Murphy received every military combat award for valor available from the U.S. Army, as well as French and Belgian awards for heroism. He grew up around the Greenville area of the Metroplex. He later became a popular film star before passing away in a tragic plane crash.


This photo was taken in 1950 and shows women and men building electronics at the Geophysical Services workplace.

There are two prominent vortexes visible in this photo.
