13 Foods That North Texans Crave When They Leave Dallas – Fort Worth
There’s much to love about living in the Dallas – Fort Worth area, and great food is just one reason why. North Texans adore robust spices, a diversity of offerings, and the creativity of menu items by chefs who just seem to “get” our tastes. That’s why when we leave the area, even if it’s just for a short amount of time, we long for these beloved foods (and drinks) that are somehow just never as good elsewhere as what can be found in the Metroplex.
1. Tex-Mex anything.
This ranges from street tacos at our favorite taqueria to a favorite Mexican restaurant. We love our Tex-Mex, and sorry folks, but the taste isn't replicated anywhere!
2. Tortilla chips served with salsa...
Chips with our favorite dipping sauce isn't limited to mealtime. We nosh on our favorite snack with almost any food, and at any time!
...or with freshly-made guacamole...
There's nothing quite like custom-made, tableside guacadmole, either. Try it if you have a chance!
...or with queso.
Trust us, good queso does not come from a jar!
3. Fried foods from the State Fair of Texas every fall.
There's nothing quite like custom-made, tableside guacamole, either. Try it if you have a chance!
Many locals make a run to the small town of West on I-35 South for the best kolaches to be found anywhere.
5. Texas T-bones.
It should come as no surprise that this area, built from the success of cattle drives, loves its beef. Our favorite cut, of course, is the huge Texas T-bone.
6. Beaver nuggets and other specialty snacks like jerky from Buc-ee's.
This Texas-only chain makes beaver nuggets its own food group. You simply won't understand, until you try them and see for yourself!
7. Texas chili.
Pass on the beans, and double the fresh-sliced jalapenos!
We simply can't get enough of true Texan style smoked brisket and other meats. We agree other parts of the country also have outstanding barbecue as well, but ours is distinctive with its spices. Our DFW barbecue connoisseurs also have the sauce down to a fine art.
9. Texas' own chicken-fried steak.
Texas even has its own "Chicken fried steak" day, if that tells you anything. Pile on the pepper cream gravy too, thank you very much! DFW has numerous Southern home cooking cafes and diners that make this specialty one worthy to come home for!
10. Blue Bell ice cream.
There's nothing better than Texas-made Blue Bell ice cream. We love it so much that we ask for it by brand!
Our margaritas have the perfect mix of tequila perfection, and frozen or on the rocks, they are unbeatable.
12. Dr. Pepper.
Of course our soft drink of choice is none other than the Waco-created concoction! It is our "coke" of choice!
13. Sweet tea.
Texas sweet tea is so good that we expect big glasses and frequent refills...something that doesn't always occur outside of the Lone Star State.
Which North Texas food would you most miss if you were no longer living in this area? Any recommendations on where the best place to go is to get your Texas fix on these foodie favorites once back in town?
