This Restaurant With Curbside Service In Texas Will Remind You Of The Good Old Days
Drive-in restaurants are few-and-far-between these days, but one Austin eatery is keeping the nostalgia alive. Top Notch Hamburgers turns the clock back a few decades with vintage signs, carhops, and even a monthly classic car show (oh, and the most delicious diner food you’ve ever tasted.)
Not much about Top Notch has changed since it first opened in 1971. The same vintage signage and carhop service still remain, taking diners back in time to much simpler days.
The menu definitely looks a bit dated, but that only adds to Top Notch's undeniable charm. Just press the button, place your order, and wait for a smiling server to bring it outside.
While the drive-in offers a more authentic experience, indoor seating is also available. Red vinyl booths and retro lighting help set the mood and rewind the clock a few decades.
All the burgers are charcoal-broiled and made with 100% real beef. Pro-tip: add a couple of slices of crisp, salty bacon for maximum deliciousness.
Equally famous at Top Notch is their fried chicken. Choose between dark and white meat, or opt for a mixture. Each two or three-piece chicken dinner is served with two sides and Texas toast.
Don't forget about dessert! Fried pies and homemade banana pudding are the perfect ending to any old-fashioned Southern meal.
You won't find a restaurant that better caters to the little ones. Served in a toy Ford Fairlane cruiser, kids meals come with an entree, side, drink, and red balloon — all for just $5.
There's also a monthly Hot Rod Night where classic car owners can show off their wheels. It's held from 6-10 p.m. and also features live music and an outdoor movie.
Top Notch is located at 7525 Burnet Rd., Austin, TX 78757. For more information, check out their
website or Facebook page.
