If You Only Do One Thing In Texas This Summer, This Should Be It
The San Antonio River Walk is one of the most iconic, tourist-heavy destinations in the entire state (and possibly the country). From dining to drinking to just taking a boat ride and experiencing the authentic culture, there’s no better, more versatile place in Texas to visit this summer.
The first thing you'll want to do is take a boat tour. You'll see so many historic sites along the River Walk during the 2.5 mile ride - no walking required!
As far as food goes, Casa Rio is a must. It has been an unwavering fixture on the River Walk since 1946 and serves up some of the best Mexican food in San Antonio.
Pearl Stable is another iconic venue that belongs on your itinerary. It served as a brewery for over 100 years before being converted into a culinary gathering spot. You can take a cooking class or simply dine on some of the finest food from all over the world.
After you're stuffed to the brim, walk it off at Rivercenter Mall. This 4-story shopping center has over 100 stores, six restaurants, an IMAX theater, and a 1,000-room Marriott Hotel.
We can't forget about entertainment! At the Arneson River Theatre, you can watch an outdoor performance WHILE taking the boat tour! Talk about killing two birds with one stone.
And if indoor theatre is more your style, the Aztec has been one of the most lavish motion picture venues in the state since 1926.
With a full day of shopping, eating, and theatre-going behind you, it's time to end the night with a drink at Esquire Tavern, the oldest bar on the River Walk. It was established in 1933 to celebrate the end of Prohibition and still stands today as one of the most popular attractions in the city.
Oh, I almost forgot a very important side note: the River Walk is just as magical at Christmastime as it is during the summer! Just look at this breathtaking light display.
