This Family-Owned Bakery And General Store Serves Some Of The Best Pie In Texas
We Texans take pie very seriously. Both taste and texture must be absolutely perfect, and once those conditions are met – well, the likelihood of us putting our forks down is slim to none. Oxbow Bakery in Palestine is one of few places that live up to our impossibly high standards, rendering it bucket list-worthy.
Oxbow bakery has only been open since 2009, but you'd never know based on its exterior alone. The building dates back over 100 years, first serving as a mule barn before being purchased by the mother and son duo who own it today.
Upon entrance, the ambiance will immediately take you back to yesteryear. Vintage signs for old-fashioned products, linoleum floors, and the wholesome vibe of a family-owned business resurrect fond childhood memories.
A dozen different flavors are made fresh daily, early morning labors of love that come out perfect every time. Whether your kryptonite involves mile-high meringue or a sinful amount of chocolate, rest-assured there's something for everyone.
Pecan Praline Cream is by far the shop's bestselling selection. Flaky, buttery crust, a gooey filling, and warm, sticky-sweet sauce all meld together for a taste sensation unlike anything you've ever experienced.
If your preferences lean more towards the traditional side, Chocolate Icebox is always a safe bet. Its extended chill time allows all the flavors to set, resulting in a cold and creamy treat ideal for summertime.
Pick your poison and enjoy it on the front porch, overlooking historic Downtown Palestine. It's incredible what some fresh air, good company, and a little dessert can do for the soul.
After demolishing your pie, do some antique shopping under the very same roof. Sift through everything from cookware to home decor searching for that diamond in the rough. You'll be hard-pressed to walk away empty handed with so many unique pieces to choose from.
Address: 215 East Crawford Street, Palestine, TX 75801. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday-Sunday.
