Queso is basically the unofficial food of Texas (right after chili, of course.) You can get it in any state, but none of them do it like we do. From modern, big city Tex-Mex joints to small town, family-owned restaurants, here are the 11 best places to get queso in Texas. Be prepared to drool all over your keyboard.
"Bob Armstrong" dip is the signature item at Matt's. Over 40 years ago, when the restaurant was just getting on its feet, the Texas land commissioner dined here and requested to be surprised with something unusual that wasn't on the menu. The chefs came up with a spicy beef and guacamole infused queso, which became a permanent fixture named after Armstrong since he enjoyed it so much.

Torchy's has grown from a small trailer in Austin to multiple locations all over Texas, both food trucks and brick-and-mortar restaurants. Personally, I think their queso deserves a lot of credit for their success. With guacamole, queso fresco, cilantro, and Torchy's famous Diablo sauce, you might eat so much of it that you won't have room for any tacos (but let's hope that doesn't happen because their tacos are spectacular as well).
Durango's is a family-run restaurant, so you can bet the food quality is spot on. Their queso is less thick and spicier than normal, and has several types of cheese melted into it. Smother it on your meal and you'll be one happy camper.
Not only should you eat at Ninfa's because it's basically a historical landmark here in Texas, but also because their food is to die for - especially the queso. I don't know what they put in it, but the combination of gooey, spicy cheese with crunchy, homemade tortilla chips is one you won't be able to stop eating.

If you've never had Kerbey Queso, I feel sincerely sorry for you because it's one of the best in Texas. It combines pico de gallo, ground beef, and guacamole with traditional white cheese for a mouthwatering dip enjoyed by poor, starving college students and senior citizens alike. With five locations in Austin, there's no excuse not to head to one ASAP and experience this queso for yourself.
