This Incredible Kite Festival In Austin Is A Must-See

This magical festival started as a humble kite contest in 1929 and has grown into something simply spectacular. Now in its 89th year, The Zilker Kite Festival boasts of all-day fun for the entire family!

The Cultural Exchange of Austin began this colorful event 89 years ago, but recently found this task too difficult to execute. ABC Home and Commercial Services now runs this annual shindig, and they've pledged that this event will continue for at least another half century. While many things in this city continue to change, we can say with certainty this that festival will stay strong.

It wouldn't be Austin without a weird kite contest! The winner of this award always goes to someone who shows supreme creativity in their decorative kite. There will also be prizes awarded to the steadiest, smallest, largest, and highest angle kite.

Kids between the ages of 7 and twelve are welcome to enter this quirky event. The contestants must race to the finish line while keeping their kites high in the air. Even if the kite falls, it's always a fun time!

Zilker Park is one of Austin's most beloved off-leash dog parks, and there's no shortage of furry friends to say hello to.
