Today it’s known as “Dirty Sixth,” but back in the day Austinites called it Pecan Street. Yes, the east-west streets are no longer named after trees, but the city’s creativity lives on. Twice a year, the city of Austin welcomes one of the biggest outdoor street fairs in the country. Full of fabulous food, exhilarating live music, and excellent craft booths, the Pecan Street Festival keeps people coming back for more. If you wander through Sixth Street on any given Saturday, you're certain to find a party. Multiply a typical weekend by ten, and you'll get the Pecan Street Festival. Hundreds of people flood Sixth Street between I-35 and Brazos to soak up the atmosphere. It's no wonder they have to throw this shindig twice a year.
