10 Things Every Austinite Wants The Rest Of The Country To Know
Austin, Texas: it isn’t all tumbleweed and cactus out here. Despite being the capital of Texas, Austin drastically differs from the rest of the state. There are a few misconceptions floating around out there, and these are 10 things every Austinite wants the rest of the country to know.

Austin is known as the land of hipsters, but we like to get in touch with our southern side, too. It's not uncommon to see ironic mustaches and fashionable skinny jeans doing the "quick quick slow."

Sorry, Portland, we came up with this catchy slogan first. It all started when a radio listener called Austin's quirky early morning music show and pleaded that Austinites support the local flair that keeps this city unique. Of course, we've taken this idea and run with it. Every year, we celebrate Eeyore's Birthday at Pease Park, and we never miss an opportunity to let our true colors shine.

From energetic musicians to innovative tech companies, Austinites are highly driven and goal-oriented. After all, we are known as both the Live Music Capital and The SIlicon Hills.

It's true; there are only about three weekends out of the year when there isn't a major party, music festival, or foodie extravaganza going on.

With an average of 150 people moving to Austin each day, we've got to make room for them somehow!

And food trailer parks are the best places on Earth.

Tons of Hollywood stars like Richard Linklater, Wes Anderson, Jon Hamm, and Matthew Mcconaughey attended UT's famed film program. In addition to these success stories, The Austin Film Society helps strengthen the city's love for creative media.

The smell of tender, smoky barbecue lingers in the air almost everywhere you go, but there are also loads of delicious restaurants that cater to vegans and vegetarians. No matter what you're diet is like, you're sure to find some creative and exciting meals in Austin.

Austin is a transplant city. Even though we like to badger the newcomers and bemoan the loss of our perfectly kept secret, most people who live here came from somewhere else.

Austin differs so drastically from the rest of the Lone Star State, that people hardly consider it part of Texas at all. From our political leanings to our vibrant way of life, everything's unique here.
