You'll have a blast while learning all about the fascinating history of the American railroad. At present, admission is $12 for adults, $9 for seniors 65 and up, $6 for children 3-12, and free of charge for children under three. Train rides are available for an extra $7. Next up, it's time to commune with nature at Galveston Island State Park. Featuring both beach and bay frontage, this unique park offers a variety of activities, from swimming to hiking to fishing. There is an entrance fee of just $5 per day for adults, and children ages 12 and under get in free. Learn more about Galveston Island State Park in our previous article.

There's lots to see and do (for free) in Galveston, including taking a stroll through The Strand, the city's historic downtown district. Even better, the ferry ride to and from the island doesn't cost a penny!
Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, 4318 FM1985, Anahuac, TX 77514, USA

Head from the beach to the forest at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, just two miles off I-10. The wildlife viewing opportunities here are spectacular, and you can see the sights on hiking trails or a scenic drive. We definitely recommend venturing out onto one of the boardwalks that lead into a craggy swamp - it's like entering a whole new world. Admission to the refuge is free for all ages.
