Enjoy Waterfront Dining In An Old Church At The Townsend Abbey In East Tennessee
When it comes to East Tennessee, there are plenty of spots that highlight the best that Tennessee has to offer, especially when it comes to the area’s stunning natural beauty. But if you’re looking for a quieter, local spot, then look no further than the Townsend Abbey, a craft beer bar and restaurant that overlooks one of the most scenic, tranquil mountain rivers in the state. If you love food, drinks, or live music, then this is the place for you.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. Right along the banks of the Little River in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, the Townsend Abbey serves up the best craft beer and food around.

The Abbey is literally in an old wedding chapel, and they capitalize on the space by turning pews into seats, making it a communal experience every time.

There's also plenty of space outside on their patio, including these seats that look over the river as it lazily passes by below.

The food is typical bar food including sandwiches, flatbreads, and wings. Plus, they serve all kinds of craft beers, including local favorites.

They often have dinner specials as well, like their famous Friday night ribs, and they also frequently have live music for their patrons.

For those visiting East Tennessee, the Townsend Abbey is less than half an hour from both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, which makes this a great local spot to escape from the crowds.

The Townsend Abbey is open only on weekends, with hours from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Hope to see you there!
For more information about the Townsend Abbey, check out their official website, and be sure to follow them on Facebook for updates on hours and live music.
