Don’t we just all love the beautiful places in our amazing state? Tennessee is filled with natural beauty all around us. This one lake in East Tennessee is no exception; in fact, it is one of the prettiest lakes in our state. There is so much to see and do in this amazing place — you might want to just plan a whole day. After all, a day spent at the lake is a day well spent.
Watauga Lake is breathtaking from the first moment you lay your eyes on its glistening waters.
It isn’t just the water that will catch your attention but the surrounding mountains. Framing this beautiful lake with lush green forests and high peaks makes this lake feel nestled in as a mountainous oasis. The surface of the lake is more than 6,000 acres, so you will have plenty to see and do here.
There are three launching points all along the 104.9-mile coastline.
It is a perfect spot to take out a boat and go fishing. You can take your family for some water skiing or tubing. Perhaps just floating in the center of Watauga Lake and taking in the beautiful scenery is for you. Either way, there is nothing quite like being in the middle of a gorgeous lake.
This is one of the best spots to lay out a towel catch the rays then cool off in the water. There is a roped-off area for swimming and the water always looks inviting.
This is a perfect place to take advantage of the many picnic tables available. The backdrop is truly stunning and is a peaceful place to just take in the views.
The picnic area also has a wall with a rocky coastline to explore.
This is a great spot to climb on the rocks, feel the water, or skip a couple of stones. One of the best things to do is to just find a flat spot, sit, and enjoy the cadence of the shoreline. As the water gently laps the shore, there is nothing quite as peaceful.
You will want to spend all day at Watauga Lake and when you do you will be treated to an incredible sunset.
As the sun goes down it paints a dramatic scene of colors over the mountains. The shadows cast beautifully over the forest and the water will sparkle as the last glimpses of light fade away. If you want to spend the night we can't blame you. It is so pretty you may never want to leave, and fortunately for you, camp at the Cardens Bluff Campground right on the shore.
Once you see the beauty of this lake in East Tennessee you will want to return many times. Often spending the whole day enjoying the amazing scenery and fully taking in the many recreational options.
