Blountville, Tennessee is a tiny town on the northeastern side of the state, so close to the border that we almost share it with North Carolina. Home to only 3,074 folks as of 2010, it's a tiny town that boasts a massive natural history.

Blountville began as a Longhunter fort, bought by James Brigham in 1782. Brigham ended up gifting 30 acres of his land to Sullivan County, a tract of land that was utilized as the county seat.

Brigham also established a hotel, one of the first in the area, nearby. Although he was quite influential in the beginnings of the area, the town was named after William Blount.
Blount was the first governor of the territory, and Blountville was its crossroads. In the 1700s, there were three routes in and out of town, making Blountville a major stop on the Great Stage Road.
Interesting fact? If Blountville were ever incorporated, it would be the second oldest municipality in Tennessee, second to the famed Jonesborough.
