The lake was formed in 1948 as a TVA initiative, and remains the only intact dam that was crafted with earthen materials as opposed to concrete.

Watauga Lake is the well-known name for this stunning Tennessee lake, but its official moniker is Watauga Reservoir.

Located east of Johnson City and Elizabethton, the water lengthens to roughly sixteen miles. It's fed by the Watauga and Elk Rivers.

Looking to spend the day fishing? You'll find rainbow trout, large mouth bass, blue gill, and eons more if you find yourself spending the summer.

The lake is situated at roughly 1900 feet above sea level, and at some spots can reach a depth of 250 feet. How crazy is that?!
