The Rare Underground Waterfall In Tennessee You’ll Have To See To Believe
Waterfalls are known for their majesty, their gushing beauty, their watery prowess amongst the more serene landscape of a Tennessee forest. Here in the heart of the south, there are quite a few beautiful areas that boast waterfalls (check them out, here!), but only one that has an UNDERGROUND waterfall. Yep, you heard us right. Located right on the border of Tennessee and Georgia, Ruby Falls is perhaps one of the best known and most impressive waterfalls in the south.
Plan a visit and experience the grandeur for yourself!
Ruby Falls was discovered in 1928 by Leo Lambert, beneath the behemoth that is Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga. Still a phenomenon of nature, Ruby Falls has been open to the public since 1929.
The experience on Lookout Mountain has become quite the must-see, with everything from the Lookout Mountain Tower to the Cavern Cafe attracting tourists from all over the United States and the world. Plus, you'll have incredible views of the Tennessee Valley the entire time.
You'll make your way deep beneath the ground on your trek to Ruby Falls, the deepest and tallest underground waterfall in the USA. You'll descend by elevator a full 26 stories, then will have the chance to take a guided tour to the waterfall.
The underground views are unreal! You'll be able to see all sorts of geological formations and will learn all about the history of the cave while you make your way to the falls. A part of the Lookout Mountain Caverns, Ruby Falls is quite striking to see.
Tourists have been regaled by the beauty of the caves for years. Electric lights were installed early on in the cave, making it one of the first commercial caves in the United States.
You can visit almost every day of the year, making it easy to experience this National Historic Landmark. You should plan to spent 2-3 hours at the falls, with the tours lasting roughly 75 minutes.
We'd highly recommend purchasing a timed entry ticket online, with adults charged $21.95 a head and children $12.95 for the Classic Waterfall Tour. There are all sorts of inclusive packages, however, for your traveling preferences. Open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., this is an epic spot to visit this summer!
Address: 1720 Scenic Highway, Chattanooga, TN 37409
