The Tennessee State Prison has been rumored abandoned for a years, a place that sits on the west side of the city and casts its stately gaze on The Nations neighborhood. The castle-like structure opened in 1898, and was quickly overcrowded. It was used to house high security male prisoners, and the prison was the home to the state electric chair, Old Sparky, for a while as well.

Recognize the outside architecture? That’s because you’ve probably seen it before in the popular Tom Hanks film, “The Green Mile.” The building is beautiful and chock full of history, and the state of Tennessee JUST filmed and released the video below – it gives you an inside look on the building that sits silent outside of the city, a place of eerie rumors and many a nightmare.

Pretty amazing, wouldn’t you say? Keep in mind, the property is still used by the state, so you want to make sure that you don’t trespass. The video was made and distributed in order to give us outsiders the insider’s views we’re all dying for.
