The Deadly History Of This Tennessee Mansion Is Terrifying But True

Talbott is a darling little town located in East Tennessee. Sweet, bursting with southern hospitality and scenic as all get-out, you may be surprised to hear that one of the most wicked and unknown serial killers lived within city limits.

Jonathan Lexer moved his family from the east coast to Tennessee in order to help populate Hamblen County. It was during a time that Tennessee was left to the wilds of nature, with many folks unwilling to cross the mountains.

It was brought to the attention of the local townsfolk that quite a few visitors were going missing. Travelers, their companions, their dogs. People were suddenly lost and no one quite knew where they went. Since Tennessee was still troubled with wildlife issues, the disappearances were thought to be due to the unknowns of the woods.

Then it all came crashing down. On July 5th, 1902, Jonathan Lexer took a freshly sharpened knife and murdered his entire family in their beds. Then, at 3:25 am, threw himself out of the upstairs window to his death below. It wasn't this brutal scene, however, that truly shook the town to the bone.

It was the 31 bodies that were found buried on the property. It all came into sudden clarity - Lexer had been hunting and murdering the new townfolk, milking the proximity to dangerous wildlife as a cover-up. The reality was terrifying and town politicians quickly came up with a plan. They decided to cover-up and hide the murders in order to continue to populate the new county. The story has remained fairly unknown every since, until official court documents were officially unsealed in 1987.

Now known as Frightmare Manor, Lexer's home is one of the most trafficked haunted spots in the state. They hold seasonal events for thrill seekers, including one for Valentine's Day Eve.
