11 Strange Habits Every Tennessean Will Defend To The Death
Tennessee can be a strange little place, and it’s home to the quirkiest kinds of people. We’re proud of our hot chicken and humid summers, our beautiful fields and fabulous meat-and-threes. No matter if you’re from Tennessee or simply moved here, you’re bound to be making the same excuses in no time.
11. Drinking ONLY Jack Daniels shouldn't be a problem, guys.
Is this a habit that should be broken? Nah. We raise up our kids to see the light, and our whiskey makes Tennessee known around the world.
10. Nor should our obsession with fried chicken.
It's a hefty meal, it keeps us full and stays well in a lunchbox.
9. And hot chicken.
Hot chicken is a Nashville thing, and we're proud of our fledgling city. We may not be putting cayenne pepper in our fried chicken at home, but hey. We'll support ya, Music City!
8. We really don't mind our Sunday morning church traffic.
It's a way of life, here in Tennessee. You load the kids up, pick up the rest of the family and head on over to that white clapboard place you've called home since childhood. Would you want anything less?
7. Orange is a beautiful color to wear. Always.
We'll wear it loud and proud, whether you're a fan of the color or not.
6. Our men will forever hold the door open for the ladies.
And other men, too. It's all about kindness and hospitality down here, and we're not afraid to show it.
5. Man, our worst habit? Heading to Chick-Fil-A. On a Sunday.
Why is it that we all get a hankering for Chik-Fil-A on a SUNDAY?! The only day they have ever not been open. It's bad, and it happens consistently.
4. We block out Saturdays to watch football, you know.
Every Saturday. It makes getting to kids' soccer games a bit of a mess, but we all know where our priorities are. It's a family affair, after all.
3. We assume the tea is sweet, so we don't even ask.
Why would you? It's the tangy sweetness of the sugar and tea that gets us through the heat of summer. There's nothing else we'd rather enjoy, sitting on our front porches.
2. Sorry, guys - a Yankee with a U-Haul gets us up in arms.
Until we get to know you, because then Tennnesseans are as sweet as can be. Raising our hand and speaking from experience? Transplants will never be in the "in" crowd, but that's okay. It's nice to be around it.
1. We're staunchly in love with our state.
And we'll defend it until the day that we die. It may not be a habit, per se, but we'll habitually speak its praises. it's our home, after all.
How many of these have you found yourselves making?
