There is a saying we have here in Tennessee, that has deep implications for the way we live: “Come, pull up a chair and sit a spell.” That old saying speaks volumes about what is important to us in our state. We fellowship with one another, we will invite you into our life and just want to spend time together. We are also not in a rush — after all, a slower-paced life is the best kind of life. There is a little store in a little town that embodies this tradition so well they could pretty much write the book on it. The Sparrow’s Nest in Wartrace, TN, is more than just a store — it’s a place to learn what small-town living in Tennessee looks like.

This little town is known as the home to the famous Tennessee Walking Horse and is just about as quaint as it comes. You can browse the shops around and many of them have great local goods and crafts, but the most appealing is The Sparrow’s Nest. Bright-colored blue doors and an overflow of the goods found within spill out onto the sidewalk. Not only will you not be able to miss this bright storefront but you can’t help but be intrigued as to what is inside.
Opening the doors you will be greeted by a friendly shopkeeper and a cozy little store filled with homemade goods. There is a little bit of everything you could want and more. Seasonal gifts for the holidays and decorative signs can be found alongside handmade jewelry and home decor.
The owners invite guests to spend some time and just relax. There is no need to hurry or run off to the next place but instead sit in the comfy seats and pull out a book from their free book nook. Sip a coffee or tea while watching an old classic movie, or chat it up with the locals in front of the fireplace. The owners have gone out of their way to make sure everyone feels included and known.
The store not only features great decorative items you can also find some delicious jams and jellies on display. There is such a variety of flavors that you are sure to find your favorite alongside a few that will be completely unique and new.
You never know what you might find at The Sparrow Nest and it is worth visiting time and time again. These one-of-a-kind places are just like a treasure hunt and that makes it as thrilling as it is inviting.
This downtown gem also features fun events throughout the year. They may host their own or join the community for several fun activities so make sure you follow along with their latest news you wouldn’t want to miss anything. They also give great opportunities for photo ops like these brilliantly created angel wings.
