Great for picnickers and horseback riding enthusiasts alike, this is a virtual haven for outdoorsy folks. And hikers, of course — we can’t forget how wonderful the trails are! Since it tends to be a bit difficult to take an all-day hike, we found the perfect hike to break up for the whole family. Curious?
It's hard to find a short hike in the Great Smoky Mountains — the trails are long and meandering, beautiful pathways that cut through the heart of Tennessee's mountain countries. Since it proves to be so difficult, we decided to find a stunning spot that could be cut in half and found ourselves pleasantly surprised.
The Rocky Top Trail is located in Cades Cove, offers the perfect opportunity to create your own hike — if you wanted to trek the entire way through the Tennessee wilderness? Then you could go on for twelve miles!

It's true — there's nothing boring or cliche about this kind of view. Perfect for trail running and birding, Rocky Top Trail has some of the best views in the park. The first couple miles of the hike are beautiful and fairly level, making it perfect for a short hike with the family or little ones. If you continue along, however, it takes a solid incline towards the peak of the mountain.
During the springtime, you'll find yourself surrounded by a burst of wildflowers and stunning Tennessee foliage. If you'd rather not schlep the trail on foot, you can take a horse along the trail as well.
The hike begins on Lead Cove Trail, and we'd recommend you hit the two-mile marker at Bote Mountain Trail. It's the perfect way to get your blood pumping on a Saturday morning.
The entire length of the hike you'll find yourself bombarded with 360-degree views. From wildflowers to rocky outcroppings, the colorful vibrancy of the surrounding natural area is bound to leave your jaw on the floor.
