The Hilltop Hike In Tennessee That Will Lead You Straight To A Spectacular View
Tennessee is crisscrossed with valleys and hills, beautifully accented by rolling fields and the crushing cascades of waterfalls to the east. When you live in such a beautiful place, it would only make sense to truly experience it, right? There’s no better way to fall in love with your home state than hiking through its gorgeous hills, and this beautiful hike on the western side of the state is one of the most epic and beautiful treks we can offer.
Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park is a gorgeous, protected span of land that's located in Shelby County, Tennessee. The park itself borders the Mississippi River and two lakes, known as Poplar Tree Lake and Lake Piersol.
Although technically located in Millington, you'll know the park due to its proximity to our great city to the west, Memphis. You can visit for yourself from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. any day of the week.
There are all sorts of opportunities for camping, including cabins for rent campsite locations. You can choose to spend the night close to the shoreline of Poplar Tree Lake, and it makes for a magical experience in the wilderness. You can even choose to rent a jon boat for your time out in the wild.
The Red Loop Trail is one of the most popular and challenging hiking trails located in the park. Although you can branch off on smaller, less challenging trails from its loop around the park, we'd recommend sticking it out for the gorgeous views of the surrounding area.
The trail itself is located about twenty miles from Memphis, and is known as a "hilly" and challenging three-mile loop that will take you deep in the forested wilderness of East Tennessee and lend you a look at the park's watery vistas and crackling forests.
You can reach the trailhead from the visitors center. The Red Loop Trail is also a popular training spot for folks who are looking to get their heart rate up or train for off-road runs. You'll be breathing heavy by the time you finish, we can promise you that!
Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park gives you the opportunity to lose yourself in the beauty of our great state and that's something we don't take lightly. Tennessee is stunning, but day-to-day life can get challenging. Forget your troubles, take a load off, and fall in love with your home all over again.
You can visit the almost 13,000 acres of protected state land for yourself at 910 Riddick Rd. in Millington, Tennessee. Make a reservation if you're looking to camp, though! It's best to get a spot in line as early as you can. Have fun!
This fall foliage hike is also an incredible experience, so don’t miss it!
