The Oldest Operating Pal’s In Tennessee Has Been Serving Mouthwatering Burgers And Shakes For Over 65 Years
In a world that is fast-paced and constantly changing it’s good to know that some things stay the same. Like people being treated well or service that is fast and friendly. It’s good to know when you arrive somewhere you will get the same great taste over and over again. There has been a mainstay burger place in Kingsport, Tennessee, that has been serving up fast meals and friendly service for over 65 years.
Pal’s is a pretty hard restaurant to miss while traveling around Eastern Tennessee.
Brightly colored cyan-blue buildings with giant hamburgers, hotdogs, and shakes make quite a statement on any street. That is what you’ll find at many of the other locations, but the original building fits perfectly as a '50s-style burger place.
The first Pal’s was opened in 1956 in Kingsport, Tennessee.
The iconic red and white striped building with the classic neon sign high above signals you when you arrive. This establishment all started with Fred "Pal" Barger in hopes of creating a simple menu that delivered quality food fast.
At the original location, you can view the long mural depicting the story of Pal’s.
You can get the classic Big Pal, which is a 1/3-pound all-beef patty with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion. You can order it with cheese and bacon if you would like to. If you are really hungry, make it a Double Big Pal which gives you two beef patties. You can also order the Chili Burger which adds chili to your burger for a unique twist.
Make sure also to order classic chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry milkshake. If you want to try something completely unique, why not try the cotton candy milkshake?
You can order hot dogs, chili dogs, ham, and chicken sandwiches, just to name a few. A popular item is the toasted cheese. This is not your typical grilled cheese; instead, you get two slices of cheese between toasted buns loaded with mayo, tomato, and lettuce.
