But not many people know that one of Nashville’s most unique spring traditions doesn’t have to do with any of these things. The Iroquois Steeplechase is a horse race that the whole family can enjoy, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a great chance to get out, eat some great food, watch the horses, and of course, wear the most ridiculous hat you can possibly find.

The Iroquois Steeplechase has taken place in Nashville nearly every Spring since 1941. As advertised, it's where tradition meets today for the whole community.

Throughout the day, there are 7 different races that culminate with the eponymous race, named after Iroquois, the first American horse to win the Epsom Derby, Brittan's most prestigious horse race.

The main race is three miles long and features fences, troughs, and flat stretches. The race usually takes just over five and a half minutes, but every second in thrilling.
