Big Band dances, swing dancing, the music of the forties and the age of our grandparents – it’s a beautiful thing, wouldn’t you say? Many of us tend to fawn over the beauty of past social events, amid our Tinder apps and Facebook messaging mishaps. No worries though, folks – Nashville is working hard to keep the romance of the past alive, and we’re about to show you how to get in on the proverbial action. Have fun!

The Big Band Dances of Nashville is hosted by Nashville Metro Parks Music, which means the dancing is free and fun for the whole family. The event occurs every Saturday night from June to August, except the Saturday closest to Independence Day.

There's actually a band - yep, live music - and all sorts of families turn out no matter the weather to enjoy a bit of fun and community. There are always food trucks galore, so bring a couple of dollars and a lawn chair so you can sit out and enjoy something delicious before the event begins.

Worried you can't dance? No problem! Nashville Ballroom & Company hosts lessons from 7-730, and from 830 to 850. You can learn how to hold your own on the dance floor of figure out a few new twists and turns to keep it lively.

One of the neatest aspects of the summertime event, is that the proceeds from your food truck purchases go to support the event sponsors: the Tennessee Arts Commission, Musician's Performance Trust Fund, Arts in the Parks and the Nashville Ballroom & Dance Company.

You can dance the night away for yourself at 2500 Centennial Avenue. Just follow the sounds of the band, dress up in a skirt that twirls or find your lady's hand, because a night of fun and excitement awaits!
