15 Things Other People Hate About Tennessee… But We LOVE
Everyone thinks their home state is the best, but here in Tennessee? We’re the ones that are right. You can hate us for the silly things but we accept and love all the good, bad and ugly being a Tennessean brings. We love our home and here’s exactly why:
15) Allergy Season
You may find yourself suffering from a bout of allergies in the early spring, but you know what that means? We have flowers. And grass. And beautiful natural vistas. Take your medication and sit down, y'all.
14) Church Parking
Maybe we need police officers to direct our church traffic, and the parking just might suck. But at least we're going to church.
13) The Nashville Batman Building
People think it's silly and kitschy or just a major architectural mistake. As for Tennessee? We think it makes us look pretty BA. There are worse things than Batman to be attributed to, don't you think?
11) Country music, again? Really?!
Country music was born in Bristol and Nashville bravely carries the torch forward as Music City, USA. Yes. Country music. AGAIN. We're proud of our heritage and those fantastic people that have played up and down our streets.
10) A theme park named after Dolly Parton
She's a freaking legend. Of course she gets a theme park - it's the natural order of things. You do everything that lady did and you can have a theme park, too.
9) Moon Pies
You may not think they're all that great, but we'll hold festivals and parties for them. Because we just so happen to think they're insanely good.
8) Everyone is trying to, 'make it.'
Yes. Because Tennessee makes rockstars out of regular people. Literally.
7) All the plaques, everything has a plaque
Tennessee is wildly immersed in American history, so we aren't even going to apologize. Yes, maybe that boulder has a plaque on it because it's historic and played a part in the Civil War and no one feels bad about it.
6) Tennesseans and Snow
We will never claim to be great with the snow. But we love it because when it does come around? It's absolutely magic. So we'll take our snow days and lopsided snowmen, thank you very much.
5) The color orange
We will not be, 'getting over' this color anytime soon. Those are our men out there!
4) Those Southern Bugs
Yes there are prickly, biting, buzzing bugs. But only because Tennessee is fabulous and everyone, even the bugs want to live here. If it means we get the Smokies and all our amazing rivers? Then we'll take 'em.
3) Summer Begins In Spring
Sometimes it's eighty degrees in March. Not this year, but in the past most definitely and it should make you want to come visit. Our good weather is quite friendly and hangs out with us all the time.
2) Tennessee Drivers
Tennessee is very well-known as a rough driving state. But we're all pretty bad drivers so check your rearview mirror and drive careful, out-of-towners.
1) Tattooed Tennesseans
Nashville has become huge into the tattoo scene, and we like the amount of edge it brings to our sweet piece of the south. Those crazy kids/awesome hipsters/cool people.
Alright, Tennessee – sound off. What do you love about your state that no one else seems to be cool about? Let’s hear it in the comments!
