When you mention Roan Mountain to someone in Tennessee, it's almost impossible to not picture the scenic route you can take up Carve’s Gap and onto the Appalachian Trail following the ridge line.
After all, it's widely considered to be the prettiest section of the Appalachian Mountains, and we wholeheartedly agree. But hidden within this gorgeous mountain is another stunning sight that you need to see.
Rhododendrons are one of those unique plants that line our trails all up and down our hiking trails.
The tall, shiny leaves make a colorful backdrop for any walk in the woods and just remind us we are home. We love the look of the green leaves from the bright colors of green found in the summer to the duller pallets of gray found in the winter. Because no matter what time of the year, these green bushes never lose their color.
Then in June, something magical happens. The rhododendrons start to bloom creating a vibrant pink flower that emerges.
