Harpeth River State Park may be well trafficked on its own, being as its within driving distance of Nashville and proffers a stunning look at middle Tennessee, but its the Hidden Lake hike that you’ve most likely been missing on your trips out and about. Have you visited this beautiful place? Or are you about to discover it?
The Hidden Lake double loop is probably the best Nashville trail you've never heard of. Tucked away and quiet, this is the perfect place to get away from it all.
Interestingly enough, you may want to put on a coat and walk the trail during the winter or early spring. The underbrush can get to be a bit much, and it's when the trees are bare and the air is cold that you can see forever.

Did you know that this part of the state natural area was actually a working quarry? It was operative from 1914 to 1918, and was eventually bought out and utilized as a public lake until World War II.
You can still see eerie signs of the roaring past - there are still steps and remnants of a marble dance floor, echoing with parties long past.
Harpeth River State Park manages forty miles of land, all stretched out in a line. There are nine access points, and the park is chock full of archaeological and historic sites.
The whole of Hidden Lake loop comes in at 1.9 miles, just enough to infuse your Saturday with a bit of history and a whole lot of Tennessee beauty.
Quick note: you can bring dogs on the trail, but you'll have to make sure they're on a leash. Children may also make the hike with little difficulty, but there are some unsturdy structures and lookout points that you'll want to keep an eye out for.
