Tennessee has plenty of beautifully stunning spots that are just begging to be explored. The popular ones are always jam-packed with people, though, making it that much more difficult to enjoy the natural wonder that’s there. It can be more difficult to find a spot that is secluded from crowds, but the payoff is completely worth it. One of the best spots in the state to get away from the crowds is right on the Tennessee-Alabama border and has a name that most are familiar with, even if they haven’t heard of this canyon. It’s called the Walls of Jericho, and it’s one of the most stunning places in the state. Check it out!

Right on the Tennessee border, there's a secluded canyon that not many people know about. It's called The Walls of Jericho, and it's truly breathtaking. The canyon is full of cliffs, waterfalls, and even a few caves.

Legend has it that Davy Crockett would explore the area often when his family owned land nearby. He even supposedly carved his name in to a few trees and rocks which you can still find today.

As you approach the gorge, the lower falls greet you with their light cascade over the rocks. It takes about 4-5 miles from the Tennessee trailhead to make it this far, so it's a good hike in.

The area got its name from an itinerant preacher who did baptisms here in the early 1800's. He gave the place a biblical name because it was so powerful for everyone who visited.

The upper falls are even more breathtaking, plunging from the top of the gorge down into a secluded pool below. You can only get to it by working your way through this narrow canyon.

The secluded area has trailheads that start in both Alabama and Tennessee, but any trail will take you over the state line and back. So not only is it a beautiful hike, but it's also a multi-state experience!

Overall, the trail is about 8 miles round-trip, but you can add miles by taking some of the other spurs. The seclusion makes it the perfect place to get away for the weekend and experience some of the beatuy that Tenenssee has to offer.
